Young and Driven: Tegan Marie is Ready for Stardom

Tegan Marie

She may be young, but don’t let that fool you. Tegan Marie is making a big splash on the country music scene. At age 12, she has already opened for her idol Hunter Hayes, graced the Radio Disney Country stage at CMA Music Festival and made her debut on ABC’s Good Morning America. Her video cover of Florida Georgia Line’s “H.O.L.Y.” quickly went viral, amassing over 17 million views on Facebook alone.

Not surprisingly, Tegan has drawn comparisons to LeAnn Rimes, who found stardom at age 13 with her breakout song “Blue.” Embracing the likeness, she released a cover of the 1996 classic and we think you’ll agree that this girl has quite the voice.

Tegan released her own song “Lucky Me” in April, with all proceeds benefitting Hurley Children’s Hospital in her hometown of Flint, MI. The community was recently affected by a water contamination crisis that left many children suffering from lead poisoning.

We asked Tegan to give us a little insight into her life as an emerging star, here’s our exclusive Q&A:

For fans who are just discovering you, what would you most like them to know about you as an artist?
Music has always been my life. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love every single day and that people enjoy hearing me!

What has been your the most exciting moment as a singer/songwriter so far?
Every moment is so exciting. I still can’t believe everything that is happening — sometimes I truly want to pinch myself. If I had to say one moment, it would be GMA’AAAZING. It was literally one of the best moments of my life to date.

What is your favorite song to perform live?
Love “Huntin’ Fishin’ And Lovin’ Everyday” by Luke Bryan because the band and I have SO MUCH fun jammin’ on stage! It really gets the crowd going!

What are your favorite three songs on the radio right now?
I love soooo many, but definitely can’t stop listening to “Church Bells” (Carrie Underwood), “Head Over Boots” (Jon Pardi) and “For Her” (Chris Lane).

Tell us a fun/surprising fact about you.
I love going to the arcade and can get a little tad competitive, but its all for good fun 😉

What can we expect from you through the end of 2016?
New music!!! It is only the beginning for Tegan Marie — so excited to share it with y’all!!!
