Which 5 words would you use to describe yourself to country music fans who are new to your music?
Flirty, edgy, sassy, serious, love.
Can you tell us a little about the EP you’re working on?
I am really excited about my new EP! There are songs about heartbreak, flirting, falling in love, and more! I’m working on the last couple songs for it and preparing to release another single soon!
Who are your musical influences?
Pre-pop Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Kelsea Ballerini and even a tad bit of Avril Lavigne.
How has being young played a role in your career, both good and bad?
Being young has definitely played a role in my career. When I first started co-writing with people it was sometimes a struggle because not very many people would take me seriously. Some writers would want to write about very young things like “In the hall, I’d drop my books so you’d notice me” type of things when I would want to write more meaningful, serious songs with lyrics that were creative, deep, and different. However, it helped me in a lot of ways because over the years I’ve had time to prove to some writers that I’m not a young schoolgirl with a crush, that there’s more to me, and that I’m serious about my writing and music. I feel now that many see that about me and take me seriously.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Okay, so this is kind of a silly answer, but I can definitely pin this as one of the most memorable concerts I’ve ever been to. It was the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Tour. Why? Well, I was just a little girl…and I was so happy, excited, and fascinated with everything going on. The stage, the lights, the props, the outfits, the music, the atmosphere. It just gave me this amazing and indescribable feeling. I can still remember the feeling even now. Watching Hannah Montana perform, I just knew in my heart that that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and there is nothing I would love more.
What has been your favorite song to write so far and why?
That’s kind of a hard question. The answer to this question will always change because I’m constantly improving and writing more songs. Right now I’m very attached to this one song I wrote with Clay Mills and Mike Krompass called “Hate That I Love You”. I just think it’s such a beautiful song and I’m very emotionally attached to it. It’s about a certain someone out there. 🙂
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can make this really loud popping noise with my tongue…if that counts. And thanks to my daddy, I have this pretty athletic side to me, I’m a really fast sprinter for a girl.
